The Basics:
MAKESHIFT (aka Jeremy Glenn) has been interested in electronic music since he heard Electric Kingdom on the K-Tel “Breakdance” record of, which he still owns the instructional poster for. This love of early hip-hop, more than likely via the influence of early Motown R&B as well as popular hip hop of the time such as RUN-DMC, Grand Master Flash, LL Cool J and other old to new school artists, gave Jeremy an ear for sampled material and “the beat.” But it wasn’t until his older brother began going to warehouse parties in the late 80′s and early 90′s that Jeremy began listening to house and dance musics more religiously. He began collecting garage and deep house records as well as continuing to build up a steady supply of underground hip-hop, R&B, funk, soul, reggae and rock.

While attending UWO in London, ON., Jeremy began DJing with London local AndyCapp at clubs such as DV8 and the Bacchus Lounge. This foray into DJing lead to the inevitable yearning to produce and Jeremy consequently attended the renowned Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology to learn more about music production. After 4 years of study, instruction, and honing his production, MAKESHIFT was born and shortly thereafter, the independent release of the Nothin’ But The Dirt EP, soon to be re-released on Pawn Shop.

Most recently, MAKESHIFT has released his Time Creeps EP featuring three tracks that span slow and gritty disco-funk, classic acid and killing dance floor house. Producing an array of music that spans electro, glitch, house, techno, ambient, acid, funk, soul and many other genres, MAKESHIFT aims to create something out of little and change pre-existing genre perceptions.
