PSR014: MAKESHIFT – Nothing But The Dirt

Artist: MAKESHIFT
Title: Nothing But The Dirt
Release date: August 31, 2009
Summary: With Nothin’ But the Dirt, MAKESHIFT attempts to explore all of the scandalous themes that make up much of our popular culture. The songs on the EP were written as a response to what MAKESHIFT has seen in the current club culture and how what once was about fun, love and community has in many ways become about sex, fashion, money and ego. In The Scene describes the setting of many clubs where fashion and egotism has become more important than the music. Video Screams follows the narrative of an Internet pornography voyeur whose more interested in the sound than the picture. Although it’s dub version lends itself more to the Techno world, Cash Cash is a Hip House throwback with lyrics that would seem all too cliché in Hip Hop were it not for the prophetic warning that it’s “gonna get you!” All together, Nothin’ But the Dirt aims at just that: dirt; grime, scandal and all of the messy little things in life that we do.
